There are only 5 more sleeps until you are officially a kindergartener! The years have passed by ever so quickly and you have become such a brilliant, witty, kind 5 year old. You definitely have your moments of defiance but over all I am truly blessed with the heart God has given you.
You have always been a mamas boy but over the past year I’d say that hasn’t been the case. See, there was a yearning to be accepted and to be around friends more than your mom. I thought it wouldn’t happen to my baby boy but it has. You are very independent and want to do things on your own. Occasionally if something looks scary or hard you will ask for help, but not normally.
And that brings me to tears as I write this. God has instilled a calling in you my son. You were born to be around people. You make others laugh, you tell funny jokes, you dance and you don’t care who’s watching. YOU my son are a leader. Not only are you a leader but you love Jesus and want to know more about him. You ask questions, you pray better than me at times.
And that Oakland Ray makes my heart so incredibly happy. I love that you want to know more about your creator. I want you to lead well. I want to love the unloveable. I want you to seek out those kids who are all alone. I want you to befriend the bully. I want you to try your hardest every day and never give up. But most of all I want you to know that YOU, my son are deeply loved.
This is for your moms who have children about to go into kindergarten… Tell them you’re so proud of them, tell them you love them, spend precious time with them, make crafts with them, play board games with them, give them hope, give them the access and freedom to speak up and be heard. I think more importantly SHOW THEM LOVE. Christ wants us to imitate him and that’s what I have been telling Oakland when he looks into a mirror I want to him to see Christ in him. Yes, at 5 I truly believe he can be the hands and feet of Jesus and understand the gospel.
Oakland Ray Ashmore, I’m so blessed that I get to spend all next year being next door to you! I can’t wait to see what God is going to do in and through you in KINDERGARTEN!

Aww so sweet! My son started kindergarten last year and now he's such a big boy in the first grade! It's amazing how much they grow and mature in that one year of Kindergarten!

What a cute kid! I loved your words to him and here's hoping he has a great first year of school. I really cannot imagine my baby ever being old enough for kindergarten, but I guess it happens.

This is so precious! My little girl is only one and a half, but seeing all these posts is helping me mentally prepare for the day I give her up a little bit to send her to school.
