It’s that time a again… the time that teachers dread. Back to school!! I actually LOVE teaching and truly feel it is a calling, not a job for me. This is my 6th year teaching and started when Oakland was 8 months old.
I feel like every year these feelings of guilt and sadness creep in, it’s like satan is trying to steal my joy and puts those things in joy’s place. I should stay home with my kids right? I could always be a better mom if I stayed home. We would save money right? I could actually have time to cook dinner every night if I stayed home.SO many what ifs…. and then I am always reminded of God’s word and how every mother is not called to stay home with their children. God wants me to be happy, he loves me, he wants the best for me, he knows what my children need.
I believe God wants me to be happy and teaching makes me extremely happy. Yes, there are days I want to give up an not work, there are days I want to be that mom that is at every class party at pre-school, I want to take my kids to the Dr. when they get sick, I want to make them breakfast….. but in this season I will teach.
As mothers we are all teachers, we teach our children new things all the time and sometimes don’t even recognize it.
Who teaches you? One thing at our training, well a lot of things, that I love about our training is how Christ is the center of it all. We hear from teachers who love the Lord and really encourage and uplift us. One of my colleagues spoke on how our dependence needs to be in Christ alone, not in ourselves.
I do not depend on God has much as I should. HE is the ultimate teacher, THE perfect teacher. I want to be taught by HIM. In order for that to happen I need to constantly be in HIS word and let Him speak to me.
I LOVE taking notes whenever I am listening to a speaker! Here are a few applicable notes that you can apply to your life if you are a mother 🙂
- NEVER stop discipling your children.
- Teach the next generation diligently.
- Set YOUR min on things above.
- Train up a child in the way he should go, love the Lord, think God’s thoughts.
- Content is only PART of the calling!
- Teaching is an act of worship
- Work is good, God called us to work, work for the Lord, not man!
- Let us do good to everyone.
- Ask God to stir our affections.
- Imitate Christ in our knowledge, affections, and actions!
- KNOW that God’s word next comes back empty.
- PRAY, PRAY, PRAY for your students and WITH THEM!
Couldn't agree more! Great post.
thank you Jenna! 🙂 Glad you agree!
"Teaching is an act of worship." Great quote!

thank you!! :):)
I love "all mum's are teachers". Never really thought of it like that before.
Thanks! It's a good one! 🙂

thank you so much Annie!!!!! I really appreciate it!
I believe when we pursue our calling it gives Him glory because we are letting his light shine in that calling. Being a mother is a calling but being a blessing outside our homes is also a calling. Kudos for following your passion and making a difference!
thank you so much! It's rough being a working mom at times but wouldn't change it for anything if it's a part of God's will! 🙂
Teaching had to be a calling. If it's not, you do more damage than good. & its damage. I'm entering my 11th year & this year I'm working in a behavior intervention classroom with really rough kids. It is so true – when kids don't know you care, they don't care what you know.
Yes!!! You are so right!
Great stuff! I agree that Christ is the ultimate teacher and that teaching is a work of heart. Keep doing what you're doing and good luck this upcoming school year!
awesome! I am so glad you agree! Thanks!!
Also, this is a brilliantly cute blog design! Nice work. 🙂
oh thank you dear!
What a great perspective on teaching!
thank you Deborah!!!!
Love your take on teaching! I had to leave teaching high school because my husband is in the Navy; I teach on the graduate level now, but it's not the same. I miss the messiness of a classroom and teaching 17-year-olds! #joyhopelive
Oh thank you so much! Yeah, I love being in the classroom! 🙂
Thanks so much for sharing with us at #JoyHopeLive!
I love this post. It's so wonderful how you feel that teaching is your calling! And I totally relate when you say that you don't rely on God as much as you should. I have really been trying to let Him teach me as well!
Sounds like teaching is definitely your calling sweet lady! Those kids must adore you. I love this post. Thank you for these wonderful reminders!
What wonderful reminders. Sometimes life gets so busy that I often times forget that Christ is the center of our world, not keeping a busy schedule.
This is great!! What awesome reminders. I have three daughters and am currently going to school to become a teacher and I've often wondered what it will be like to be both a teacher and a mommy. I know I will love it so much, as it's always been my passion, so I pray that when I'm struggling with the thoughts you've mentioned above I am able to keep it all in perspective. It seems like you are doing a fabulous job balancing being a mommy and a teacher and a woman of God. Love this! Hope you have a great school year 🙂
So glad you've found a passion in teaching and something that makes you so happy! I can tell you're very happy!

I'm glad you can find a balance and do what you enjoy. Those kids that you teach are very lucky to have you and Im sure the parents appreciate the passion that you have for teaching. I know I would.
I love this. Like you, but opposite as I'm a SAHM, I get those creeping ins by Satan telling me I'd be happier going to work and leaving my kids. Sometimes it is a daily reminder of that God called me to be home and teach my children.
I love how you are so open about your relationship with the Lord. Your family is truly blessed and so are the kids you teach.
